The Sperry Tent story

Flagship Events is proud to introduce Sperry tents to New Zealand for the first time. These tents, with their natural elegance, are a perfect match for the breathtaking landscapes of our beautiful country, making them an obvious choice for your special event.

Developing the world’s finest tent.

Sperry Tents originated from the ingenuity of Steve Sperry, a renowned sailmaker who began his illustrious career in the '60s at Hood Sailmakers. In the mid-'70s, Steve founded Sperry Sails in Marion, Massachusetts, quickly gaining recognition and respect in the New England sailing community for his craftsmanship and iconic, colorful sun logo.

On a whim, Steve decided to craft a party tent for an upcoming event. Utilizing his expertise and resources—sailcloth, sewing machines, grommets, and nautical line—he even handcrafted the wooden support poles at his personal sawmill. The result was a tent adorned with a large Sperry Sails logo, marking the inception of a transformative era in event tents.

In 1996, the legacy continued when Steve's sons, Tim and Matt Sperry, returned from a global sailing adventure. Tim established Sperry Tents as a distinct rental entity, while Matt focused on Sperry Sails, further refining the family's signature fabric designs.

Today, Tim serves as the president of Sperry Tents, expanding the brand's global footprint through licensed providers. Matt has succeeded his father as the president of Sperry Sails and also launched Sperry Fabric Architecture, responsible for manufacturing each Sperry Tent and custom fabric structures.

“Sperry Tents are sought after for their quiet luxury, classic detailing, and natural elegance — they are the ultimate outdoor venue.”
